Wacky Wednesday

Can you believe we have been in school for almost 4 weeks!  I know the kids are ready for a long weekend, so am I!  This week we have been going through our first round of Arts and Humanities Rotation.  Our class has been learning about Swing Dancing.  They have learned some new moves and have had a great time!

Tomorrow we will have our annual health screening.  If your child wears glasses, please make sure he/she has them tomorrow.  They will be screened for weight, height, vision, and blood pressure.

Grandparents' Week is coming up!  We would like to invite grandparents to eat with our class on Friday, Sept. 13.  Please complete the form that was sent home today so that we can plan accordingly.

Don't forget about the Fall Fair September 6th.  It will be a fun time for all.  I appreciate all of you who have signed up to work our game!

Is it Wednesday already???

This week seems to be flying by!  I hope that everyone is having a great week so far!  I apologize for the lack in posting to the blog.  I am keeping up with the nightly emails.  If you are not getting those, please send me a message: jennifer.rase2@scott.kyschools.us.

This Friday the students will be taking a special computer-based test called MAP.  A letter came home in the Monday Folder regarding this test.  We will take this test 3 times per year. This week we will take Reading, followed by Math and Language over the next two weeks. Thanks for your support in this matter!

We used microscopes in Science Class today.  Ask your child about the things we saw!  Have a great night!

Thrilling Thursday!

We are having a great week!  Two science experiments down and one more to go!  I have been so impressed with the teamwork and the cooperation I have seen in science class.

We took our first reading quiz today.  Please look for those to come home in Monday Folders.  The students will be continue working in the basal (reading textbook) for the next few weeks.

I will be posting new spelling words on tomorrow's blog.  I encourage you to practice a little each night.  There is a great APP for the IPad or IPod called simply "My Spelling Test."  You can record yourself saying the words and then it will give you a test.  Your child will type in the appropriate spelling when he/she hears the word.  While our tests are multiple choice, this practice will enable him/her to practice and recognize the correct spelling.

I hope you have a good night!

Fourth Grade Feels Real!
We switched classes for the first time today.  This made fourth grade feel "real."  The kids were able to meet Mrs. Portwood and Mrs. Price.  I was pleased with their transitions from class to class.

Tonight for homework the students need to complete their ME posters.  I hope to hang these in the hallway tomorrow.

We will have a pretty "normal" week next week.  This will include switching classes, spelling list and test on Friday, and some small group instruction in the afternoon.

I placed a label in the front of each child's agenda book with all of my contact information: phone, blog, and email.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Giovanni's tonight to support SGES Spirit Night!

I hope everyone has had a great first week!

First Day Fun!

What a first day!  I had a terrific time getting to know my new group of students this year!  We learned about our favorite things.  We took silly pictures using props.  We learned about how to build up one another, instead of tearing down one another.  We established our rules.  I don't know about the kids, but it was a full day for me!  I need a nap!

Please continue to send in forms and room fees.  I sent out my first parent email today.  If you did not receive it, feel free to email me at: jennifer.rase2@scott.kyschools.us.  I will try to send out an email each day and update this blog.

We are off to a great start!!!
